Postdoctoral Degree Program

ICFO – The Institute of Photonic Sciences, a centre based in Castelldefels (Barcelona, Spain), devoted to research and education of the optical and photonic sciences at the highest international level. The ICFOnest International Post-doctoral Program (http://nestpostdocs.icfo.es), partially supported by the Marie Curie Co-funding of Regional, National and International Programme (COFUND) action of the European Commission, aims at providing high-level training and support for outstanding international researchers in the early stages of their careers, working in the field of Photonics. ICFO will provide cutting edge facilities as well as a stimulating, international and interdisciplinary environment to help Fellows become successful independent researchers.
Eligibility Details:
In terms of eligibility a candidate must comply with the following requirements:
1. Have not spent more than 12 months of the prior 24 months in Spain, and not be Spanish citizens/residents. Spanish citizens may apply however if they spent at least 3 years immediately prior the application deadline in a country other than Spain.
2. Be in possession of a PhD degree at the time of the application cut-off-point.
3. Have not been awarded the PhD degree more than 5 years prior to the application deadline. Exceptions are made for documented periods of parental leave. Women may claim up to 12 months for child, for a maximum of 3 years.
4. Be first author in at least one publication (either submitted, accepted, in print or published). Copies may be requested.
5. Provide complete documentation requested for application. Exceptions to the PhD degree requirements will be made for women with children and other documented career breaks. Persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. No restrictions of citizenship apply to ICFOnest Post-doctoral Fellowships. The ICFOnest Post-doctoral Fellows will be hired by ICFO on a standard employment contract of 24-month duration to perform his/her duties within an existing ICFO research group.

80 Master’s Scholarships 2011-12 for UK

We currently have 80 scholarships available for taught Master’s or MRes students enrolling in September 2011. These scholarships are open to applicants for all Master’s programmes throughout the University and are offered by every School or College. Awards are available for both full or part-time Master’s or MRes study. Details of all the Master’s programmes available can be found on our postgraduate course listings. Each Master’s scholarship is worth £2,700, which may only be used to offset tuition fees.
How to Apply:
If you would like to apply for a scholarship you will need to complete a Postgraduate Scholarship Application Form. This will be sent to you automatically once you have applied for a place to study at Swansea and are made an offer by the University.

Most of the Chinese national universities provide Chinese language programs for international students, both short-term and semester program are available. International students should take the semester program instead of few weeks short-term course. Student can learn very limited Chinese skills within only few weeks. Students should expect to spend at least one semester in order to handle daily communication and make basis for the future studies. International students who have already studied Chinese language before can enroll into the advanced level Chinese language program. A placement test will be given at the beginning of each semester, and classes will be arranged according to the test result.
China has become one of the most popular study abroad destinations for international students because of its long history and exciting culture. New UK Visa Policy for Students

A statement of changes to the Immigration Rules has today been laid before Parliament, setting out how the student visa system will be reformed from next month. The reforms, which affect Tier 4 of the points-based system, were announced last week.
To accompany the statement of changes in the Immigration Rules bringing the first set of changes into force from 21 April 2011, we have published:
  • a statement of intent containing full details of the reforms;
  • revised policy guidance for Tier 4 migrants from 21 April 2011; and
  • revised guidance for Tier 4 sponsors from 21 April 2011.
The laying of the statement of changes was anounced in a written ministerial statement by Immigration Minister Damian Green.
